Best of 2013 Misc Blogs Featured Image

Welcome to the third and final article in our “Best of 2013″ series.

Today we focus on our seven most popular miscellaneous blogs which don’t directly relate to PLC’s or HMI’s.

As we previously noted, older blogs have the advantage due to the fact that they’ve been posted longer and have had more time to get views. However, it wouldn’t surprise me to see some of our “late 2013″ blogs in next year’s “Best Of” list after they’ve had more time on the net.

So to wrap up our “Best Of 2013,” below is a list of the remaining top blog posts of 2013!

Changes planned for Insights in Automation in 2014

2014

2014

Just a quick post to announce some planned changes coming to the network of “Insights in Automation” websites in 2014.

Update: You can listen to our plans for 2014 in the companion podcast HERE.

First. we plan on continuing to update InsightsInAutomation.com with links to the new content being posted on The Automation Blog, The Automation Minute, and The Automation Podcast.

However, we’re moving away from separate weekly roll-ups for each site. Instead, we plan to post short weekday updates for all sites combined, followed by a full weeks roll-up on the weekend (similar to yesterday’s “This Week’s Insights” article.)

We don’t expect this change to affect visitors coming to the site(s) by means of internet search’s. However, we do think it will greatly help our daily readers who will soon be able to visit a single site, “www.InsightsInAutomation.com” to find the link to that weekday’s post.

We’re hoping this change will result in a better experience all around, but if you have any comments, questions, or suggestions please don’t hesitate to leave them by either using the “post a comment or question” link below, or by sending them to us by using the contact form available from the “contact” link at the top of the site.

Until next time, Peace ✌️

Rockwell’s Sample Code Library Website

Sample Code Library Website Featured Image

UPDATE: Check out the new 2017 version of this procedure HERE.

I often get calls from clients who are looking for sample code, and most of the time I end up directing them to Rockwell’s Sample Code Library Website.

This Rockwell website contains a library of hundreds of pieces of code for programmable controllers and HMI’s. And it’s a totally “free of charge” code sharing site.

Some of the code in the library is developed by Rockwell, while other samples are uploaded by users like you and I. If you have a peice of code you think others would find helpful. you are invited to upload it to the library as well.

Sample Code Library Website Last 30 daysUsing this library is as simple as searching the web. You just enter in a keyword or search phrase and press search. Then the results are returned, and will include the following information:

  • Title of the code
  • Information link
  • Catalog numbers the code is for
  •  User Rating
  • RA preferred
  • Number of downloads
  • Date uploaded
  • Download link

When you click on the download link you’ll be prompted to accept a license agreement. Once you do, you’ll be prompted to download a zip file of the sample code you chose.

Top Library Picks

Some of the library files I’ve found most helpful are:

  • Sample Code Library Website ME FaceplatesME and SE Faceplates:
    • These do not include the PlantPAx Process Objects – those are found in Rockwell’s Knowledgebase and require a service contract to access.
  • ModbusTCP AOI for A-B Ethernet products which support “open sockets”
  • “Scale with Parameters” AOI for use in RSLogix 5000 Ladder Logic
  • Micro850 Ethernet Messaging Blocks to message from the Micro850 to SLC-500 and PLC-5 processors.

Rockwell’s Sample Code Library website can be reached at the link below:

Rockwell has also published a short video (embedded below) explaining the site’s purpose and how to use it:

I hope you’ve found the above information about Rockwell’s Sample Code Library Website helpful.

If you have a favorite download from the library, or have a comment or question about it, please don’t hesitate to leave us your comments by using the “post a comment or question” link below.

However, this “Accelerator Toolkit” is designed for the Micro800 and Connected Components Workbench, where as the “Building Blocks” are designed around the MicroLogix and RSLogix.

Initially, when you download CCAT you get the following building blocks:

  • Motion Control: Kinetix® 3 Indexing Project
  • Low Voltage Drives: PowerFlex® Component-class AC Drives
  • Temperature Control: 900-TC Controller Project

Unlike CCBB, these samples are not just available via folders from a zip file. The CCAT comes with and installs a Windows Application to help you select which CCAT files you would like to open. Fortunately, the files are also available in a folder if you want to access them manually.

Connected Components Accelerator Toolkit ApplicationSimilar to CCBB, each CCAT contains the following:

  • “Quick start” manual
  • Bill of materials in ProposalWorks format
  • Many different “starting” programs in Connected Components Workbench
    • Includes Micro800 logic and PanelView Component displays
  • CAD drawings in IEC and NFPA formats for AutoCAD (dwg) and EPlan

And like the CCBB, CCAT is available completely free at the below url:
