This week Festo introduced its CMMT MP family of multi-protocol servo drives, with each drive field configurable as either EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT, PROFINET, or Modbus TCP.
This is a new and welcomed trend we’re seeing across the industry, and in Festo’s case this single-family multi-protocol strategy allowed them to reduce the number of catalog numbers in this line from 24 to 8 units, as each unit supports the four most common Industrial Ethernet protocols.
But it’s not just Festo the benefits. Their customers also benefit from the reduced number of servos while still being able to meet their customer’s preferences when it comes to Programmable Controller Vendor and Ethernet Protocol support…
