ET 200pro: EM 2 SSI for connecting SSI absolute encoders by Siemens

ET 200pro:

A recent Siemens article announced the availability of the EM 2 SSI electronic module, a part of the SIMATIC ET 200pro distributed I/O system. This module is engineered to ease the connection of SSI absolute encoders with RS-422 interfaces, providing two identical channels for this function. To maximize the use of this module, the CM SSI 2xM12 connection module (6ES7194-4CC00-0AA0) needs to be ordered separately.

The SIMATIC ET 200pro system is known for its robust and modular structure, offering an IP65/67 protection level. This system offers a broad selection of modules, allowing for diverse application possibilities directly on the machine, eliminating the need for a control cabinet. Its hot-swappable design facilitates easy module replacement without needing to shut down the system, guaranteeing uninterrupted operation.

The introduction of the EM 2 SSI expansion module allows users to integrate SSI absolute encoders for position recording, further boosting the system’s adaptability and functionality.

ABB co-launches interoperability initiative to unlock Industrial IoT insights

Interoperability initiative to unlock Industrial IoT insights:

In a recent ABB article, Florian Schneeberger, the CTO of ABB’s Machine Automation division (B&R), underscored the significance of data sources in making decisions. He expressed, “The greater the number of data sources, the more informed the decisions.” Schneeberger further highlighted the difficulties of traversing diverse industrial ecosystems and the essential role of interoperability in fully realizing digitalization. He elaborated that interoperability allows organizations to quickly implement and scale Industrial IoT solutions without the need for extensive IT specialist teams.

In March 2024, ABB became a member of the Linux Foundation, a step intended to boost efforts to foster open community collaboration. This move is anticipated to stimulate innovation and facilitate the creation of superior products and experiences for customers. This decision also reaffirms ABB’s dedication to systems based on open standards.

At a live panel discussion at the Hannover Messe, representatives from the six founding members (ABB, Capgemini, Microsoft, Rockwell Automation, Schneider Electric, and Siemens) shared their vision for edge interoperability in the Industrial IoT. They also invited industry colleagues with similar interests to join the community and contribute to the creation of a substantial and effective standard. A recording of the panel discussion will be accessible at http://www.margo.org.
