Three Profinet Application Profiles Gaining Momentum:
PROFINET is experiencing a resurgence in the use of Application Profiles, with three profiles leading the way: PROFIsafe, PROFIenergy, and PROFIdrive. In previous issues, we explored PROFIsafe and PROFIenergy, and in this edition, we delve into PROFIdrive.
To recap, Application Profiles enhance device compatibility within a network. While the PROFINET specification establishes compatibility at the protocol and interface level, Application Profiles go further by standardizing data types, semantics, and functionality. This enables not only interoperability but also device interchangeability. Each Application Profile is meticulously developed by PI, mirroring the approach taken for the PROFINET protocol.
