Rockwell Automation and Infinitum Team Up To Make High-Efficiency Low Voltage Drives and Motors

Infinitum, creator of the sustainable air core motor, and Rockwell Automation announced an exclusive agreement to develop and distribute a new class of high-efficiency, low voltage drive and motor tech.

This solution is said to significantly reduce energy and costs for industrial customers. Energy conscious companies already implement variable frequency drives (VFDs) with high-efficiency motors to save energy, but still motors account for nearly 70% of the power consumed by industrial companies.

Under this agreement, Rockwell will combine its PowerFlex technology with Infinitum’s Aircore EC motor system, resulting in a system that should greatly reduce energy consumption compared to current systems.

Medium Voltage Continuous Thermal Monitoring

Many facilities around the globe are making the most of scheduled shutdowns, and they are using that time to invest in upgrades that align with their digital transformation goals.

And according to Grace Technologies, one of the most significant shifts in the  industry is the growing interest in continuous thermal monitoring of medium voltage systems.

One of the goals of digitization is implementing smarter and more efficient ways of doing this through the use of off the shelf technology. And in the electrical world, this means leveraging technology to monitor and even predict and prevent issues before they happen, which is where Grace Technologies says their GraceSense Hot Spot Monitor can help.

Can Modern DevOps Bridge the Manufacturing Talent Gap?

For many years globalization and outsourcing had taken its toll on American Manufacturing, as corporations focused on profits to the determent of their customers.

But in more recent years the trend of reshoring and the Manufacture Local movement has given a boost to manufacturing in America, however their is still a skilled worker shortage that’s compounded by the industry’s aging (and retiring) workforce.

To attract a younger generation of employees, companies new to adopt the new technologies most of those entering the workforce have never been without. Just like most Baby Boomers had no desire to spend their working lives on farming the family’s land, so to most or GenZ don’t want to give up their touchscreens to pickup their grandfathers clipboard or programming terminal, and that’s where adopting modern products like git based source control comes in, according to today’s article from Copia.

Straton Redundancy S2 ProfinetIO

As we previously reported, the Straton redundant runtime now supports S2 redundancy on ProfinetIO.

In this configuration, the Primary and Secondary controllers both connect to devices on Profinet, allowing active switching with low latency, avoiding temporary network failures.

S2 redundancy also allows a reduction of the switching time from one controller to another without having to restart the Profinet stack because the Profinet link remains active.
