Honeywell Report Reveals “Silent Residency”

Silent Residency:

Honeywell recently published an article featuring its 2024 USB Threat Report. The report highlights the escalating cyber threat of “silent residency” in industrial and critical infrastructure facilities. Honeywell accentuated the rising danger of “living off the land” (“LotL”) attacks, where adversaries covertly use USB devices to gain access to industrial control systems. This covert access enables them to monitor operations and initiate attacks that can avoid detection and manipulate the targeted systems.

Michael Ruiz, Honeywell’s vice president of OT cybersecurity, commented, “Targeted cyber-physical attacks are not just about zero-day exploits that exploit an unknown or unaddressed vulnerability. They now also involve silent residency – using LotL attacks to bide their time until the right moment to turn a system against itself.” The report by Honeywell emphasizes the crucial need for strong cybersecurity measures to safeguard industrial and critical infrastructure from emerging cyber threats.

STEP 7 Safety Basic in conjunction with TIA Portal V20 by Siemens

STEP 7 Safety Basic in conjunction with TIA Portal V20:

Siemens recently revealed in an article that the introduction of the S7-1200 G2 and TIA Portal V20 to the market will allow customers to develop their safety programs without the need for an extra STEP 7 Safety Basic license. Consequently, Siemens will cease to offer STEP 7 Safety Basic, STEP 7 Safety Basic Upgrade, and STEP 7 Safety Advanced Powerpack. The STEP 7 V20 Basic / Professional license will be modified to incorporate Step 7 Safety Basic as a core feature.

This modification implies that starting with TIA Portal V20, a SIMATIC STEP 7 Safety Basic license will no longer be necessary to manage a failsafe S7-1200 / S7-1200 G2 in the TIA Portal.

PlantPAx Process Control Instructions by Rockwell Automation

PlantPAx Process Control Instructions:

A recent publication from Rockwell Automation has introduced a manual that equips programmers with comprehensive details about each PlantPAx process instruction available for Logix-based controllers. The manual further provides advice and examples for the observation and handling of discrete and analog inputs and outputs for device management.

Rockwell Automation recognizes that some terminology used in their industry and publications does not align with the ongoing shift towards inclusive language in technology. They are actively working with industry colleagues to identify alternatives to such terms and are updating their products and content accordingly. They request patience and understanding as these changes are being made to their content.

In addition, Rockwell Automation publishes legal notices, which include privacy policies, license agreements, trademark disclosures, and other terms and conditions, on the Legal Notices section of their website.
