Flashback Friday! RSLogix 5000 ASCII Integer from Word to String

Welcome to The Automation Blog’s “Flashback Friday!”

Today I’m highlighting some simple code I wrote and published twelve years ago using RSLogix version 10.

ap_ladderlogic_clx_asciiint2string_1The year was 2002, and my client needed a way to take an ADCII integer read from an Bar Code reader and place it into a string

This was the early days of Logix and its string support, and the code in the original article is the sample I wrote for him.

Posted on my original website back in 2002, you can now find this article and link to the RSLogix 5000 ACD HERE on The Automation Blog:

  1. Hey Shaun, is there no built-in way to scoot an ASCII string out to an ethernet connected device, from a CLX PLC from code, without using a gateway?

    • @Scotty P,

Yes there is – the key is the Controller’s support for Open Sockets – this use to only be available in the EWEB way back when, but I believe the last two generations have supported this and you should find details in the knowbase.
